Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential and protected under HIPAA, the federal health-privacy law — it isn’t shared with anyone without your written permission.
There are a few limited exceptions where the law requires a therapist to act to keep people safe:
When there is a serious risk of harm to yourself
When there is a risk of harm to another person
When there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, an older adult, or a vulnerable adult
When a court orders the release of records
Outside of those situations, what you share stays between you and Mollie. Your records are kept in a secure, encrypted electronic health record, and you’re welcome to request a copy of the full Notice of Privacy Practices at any time.
How long is a typical appointment?
A typical therapy session is 50 minutes. I try to stay on time out of respect for the next client’s appointment.
Where are you located?
Our office is at 1517 Huguenot Rd. Suite #200A, Midlothian, VA 23113 — just behind Mellow Mushroom Pizza. In-person and online appointments are both available.
What insurances do you accept?
We accept Aetna insurance. If you have a different plan, a sliding scale fee is available for cash payments based on your household income.
Is there any paperwork I need fill out?
Yes. Intake paperwork can be downloaded from the “Intake Form” link in the site navigation and completed before your first appointment so it doesn’t cut into session time.
If you’re not able to complete it ahead of time, paper copies will be available for you to fill out when you arrive.
What hours do you see clients?
Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, by appointment.
How do I pay?
Payment can be made by insurance billing, credit card, or cash, and is collected at the start of each session.
How often do I need to come, and for how long?
Most clients come weekly, though scheduling is flexible and based on what works for you. On average, clients attend 6 to 8 sessions total, though this varies by individual need and by how many sessions your insurance allows.
Session frequency and total length of treatment is something we’ll discuss together based on your specific situation.
What can I expect on my first appointment?
Your first appointment is focused on getting to know you. It typically includes building a genogram (family tree), reviewing your history, and identifying the concerns you’d like to work on.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a set of initial goals for treatment. Coming ready to talk through what’s bringing you in helps us make the most of the time.
Do you have appointment reminders?
Yes. Text message reminders can be sent on the day of your appointment if you’d like — just let us know. Your phone number stays confidential and is never used for anything else.
Is therapy right for me?
Therapy looks different for everyone, and it’s tailored to fit you rather than the other way around. If you’re not sure whether it’s the right fit, you’re welcome to call (804) 924-9002 for a free pre-appointment consultation to talk it through. If I don’t answer, feel free to email or text.
